Living an active life depends on strong bones and healthy tissues. Bone fragility and tissue degeneration can take active years away from otherwise healthy people.

1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men over the age of 50 will experience a bone fragility fracture. Bone fragility is not just an old person’s problem. It is also a result of countless diseases and treatment side-effects.


Bone fragility affects over 200 million people worldwide with a fracture occurring once every 3 seconds. Nearly 3 in 4 people who suffer from bone fragility will never return to pre-injury quality of life.


In 2005, UCSB Professor Paul Hansma made a groundbreaking scientific discovery that led him to invent Reference Point Indentation (RPI) to precisely test the quality of bones and tissues. Today, RPI is used by medical researchers worldwide to discover important information about bone and tissue health.

Experts worldwide are discovering RPI measures like BMSi that could one day be used as new and improved tests for medical professionals to better prevent, diagnose and treat bone and tissue health problems. The ActiveLife team is dedicated to bringing RPI technology to scientists, medical professionals and patients everywhere.
